138341, OBX TB Spacer question (Not what you think)
Posted by electrohead, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I've been running a MP 60mm TB on my '95 and when I move it over to my '99, I want to make the transition smoother between the TB and manifold and eliminate the step. I'm a bit hesitant to open up the stock intake manifold to accept the TB due to the small neck, so I was thinking of purchasing a TB spacer and opening it up to 60mm and having it taper. I would feel safer having a taper that started from the spacer and possible continued into the manifold. Would that work, or would it be ineffective?

If it were me, I would pick up a spare upper intake manifold and open it up to match the TB at the flange and tapering towards the neck. Before you actually start grinding, have someone weld some more metal on the exterior of the neck. that would let you be a little more aggressive with the grinder and not punch through. A used upper intake manifold shouldn't be very expensive, in case you mess up. That and most mistakes can be fixed with a welder.
