133216, FYI... OEM Oil Pump Is A Melling M190 Posted by teklein, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
So Zac ordered a OEM oil pump from Mopar.
Looking at it, I saw M190 on it.
Googled the pictures, and the OEM oil pump is in fact a Melling.
In Mopar plastic, box, and all.
Weird.

So in other words all the talk about the Melling pumps being garbage and the OEM one being the only way to go is just that, all talk?

No the OEM units previously discussed had penta star castings. Unknown when mopar began using mellings for their supplier.

Imported fro Detroit by way of mexico.

Well I hope its okay.
I did have the bottom end balanced and the crank was out of balance, so that could have been why Zacs motor killed two.
Considering a ATI SuperDamper at this point for insurance.

Group buy on the ATI!! I want one too, but $450 is just too much.

Yep, it very well could have killed the last one but the first one was due to the turbo sending shit in the oil pan. I thought I had it balanced last time but I guess I didn't since it was out of balance. Thats a different crank than what was in the first motor. :shrug

I'm willing to bet that they just outsourced that pump because they didn't have any (and figured the buyer wouldn't know the difference). I've seen the stealerships do that. So, if that's the case, I would think that they would become available again.
But this is pure conjecture based on associated experience......

That was from the manufacturer. Mopar.
Also called Dodge today. He said that aa far as he knew Melling has always been the supplier and the pentastar is on some and not on others.

Perhaps that's the case. They may have had an old mold (the one with the pentastar) that outlived its lifespan, so now they are using another mold without the pentastar.

I couldn't find the OEM oil pump as well, so Melling M190 was my only choice and the warranty is only for a year. Does anyone know what kind of problems that the Melling M190 gives? I think I hear a humming sound coming from it but not sure. (sounds like a power steering pump starting to go bad) That could be one problem on the list, could anyone add on to it?
