keeping basically OEM spec, I just want a nice solid DD.

Just wanted to post this up here in case I have questions and what not and you can guys can see what you're helping me with... I've asked a buncha questions and a lof of you have been really helpful. More so in the past 2 weeks than dsmtuners.com was in like 6 years! ;)

This is how it was parked in my back yard in my highly professional and comfortable working area.

This is what my coolant looked like..

Battery/ Intake removal...

Rear bumper and taillight removal

Blitz sideskirts off, door shuts SO MUCH better now.

Interior, system, shitload of useless wiring removal

some leather GSX seats I aquired, thank you craigslist.

I'm surprised my car never caught on fire..

Interior... It's all stained and gray. That's getting fixed.

Stand full of goodies!!!

Cleaned up the door panels.

Typically milkshake coolant is churned up oil and coolant mixed. Usually a dead giveaway for a blow headgasket.

Oh, and resize the pics in your sig. They're excessively large.

haha yah, most definately a blown head gasket.

Also as for color... I plan to paint it white and get some 17" XXR 962's.

Love me some gold on white lol

MPx UDP for 95-99 neon work on my car??

Also I didn't really plan on this nor do I need to do it now but just out of curiosity that MP throttle body worth it? Accompanied with header/exhaust/intake or is $200 better spent?
131578, RE: 97 gs build!
Posted by dsmracr420a, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Nope. The neon used a v-belt for power steering and air.

The MP throttlebody will give you some top end, but unless you port the intake as close as possible to match and got the head ported to flow better you could probly find better things to spend the $200 on. The Eclipse I work on has a MP throttle body and my personal oppinion is it looks really pretty. lol

However if you build the motor up then eventually it would be worth it.

Also if you want the bigger throttlebody you can either do a jeep throttlebody converson which will cost you like $70/$80 (which is nowhere near as pretty) or buy a MP off of someone in the market place for a little bit cheaper. That will help you save alittle of that 200 to make it better spent.

I was thinking to maybe save all that $200 and just port mine with my dremel. lol

I might try this task out.

I should have some more pictures and updates after this weekend. All week is pretty much stand-by because I work weird hours and so the weekend is really all I got to make any kind of progress.

not sure how i feel about the gold rims, but this gives me a kick in the ass to paint my interior black.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it either. I don't know if it's because I painted it outside and maybe it was moisture overnight but I woke up there was like little pockets/bumps all over it.

Maybe paint it indoors? or heat dry?

Ahh yes, the old headgasket that is guaranteed to fail on you after 80,000 plus miles. It looks like you got your work cut out for you, but if you didn't then where's the fun in it right? :)

Good luck with the build.

Gotta love that cut and welded short shifter.

I thought the pic of you giving the EGR the finger was pretty funny.

haha to be honest I didn't know that was cut and welded... I've never touched the shifter.

That headgasket leak is nasty! My headgasket started leaking at 48,000 miles. Thank God I noticed it because it was covered under the 5 years/50,000 drive train warranty.

It's cool you are doing it all yourself....looks like fun.

Two things:

First, why did you go with the hydraulic tensioner (I'm assuming that you did put it on right?)

Second, you took the time to make the head look like brand new, why didn't you clean up the block a little more?

- the hydraulic tensioner isn't bad, its funny i started hearing a bunch of "incidents" about the mechanical one...
- I also agree with this ^^, Why leave your block so nasty looking, theres still oil and shit on there...
- +1 for your head tho, haha...

lol I did clean the block a lot more I just don't have specific picturse a lot more for it. also I used that tensioner because there wasn't anything wrong with it.

oh okay...good, but those tensioners should be replaced at around 60k on a new engine, so....i would have gotten a new one if your more than 100k...IMO...
