does anyone know why the brake light on my dashboard is constantly on? the little one that lights up when you pull the e-brake. does that mean it's time to change the brakes. i remember it came on before and i changed that pads and it went away.

out which they kinda are.

Did you check the brake fluid yet??? Most the time it comes on when the fluid level is Low...

I..... had the same problem.... last winter... but as soon the wether got a lil' better.. it went away...... could be cuz of the cold wether.

mine is on all the time,, when it gets cold it will do that,,if it bothers u ,, pop the hood and take that brake fluid cap off,,(big white cap, back of the engine bay drivers side),and then just put it back on, for some reason removing the cap will cause the light 2 go off...todd

btw, what wheels do u have on your ride? size? and springs?,, im lookin into gettin wheels and i like your set-up

i got the same problem, brakes aren't worn either. brake fluid's full and all that good stuff. it's been going away now that the weather's clearing up. just buggs the hell out a me

when the weather outside gets warm. Here is the problem. When the weather gets cold the e-brake cables constrict which makes them a bit tighter. You can adjust the light switch under the center console, next to the T-attachment joint where the e-brake cables come together(do not know the exact names). There is a small rod that connects that T-attachment to the e-brake handle itself. When the cables get tighter it pushes on the brake light switch regardless if the handle is pulled. This is also a good way of knowing if your cables are adjusted too tight. Mine used to do this when it was below zero degrees and then go away when it warmed up. I adjusted it(slightly loosened)and it took care of the problem. There is not a sensor on the brake pads themselves and the only way to know they are worn is the squeal. If you take your wheels off every 6K miles to rotate your tires then check your pads at that time.

Check your brake fluid level. The light is a safety feature to let you know when it is low. Inside the brake fluid resivor is a "Float switch" When this switch makes contact it completes the circut. The float has a magnet on the bottom and sometimes makes contact with the bottom of the resivor which makes it think it is too low. This could be caused by tempature drops contracting the fluid or because of a low level. I hope this helps.
