4594, Cant Turn Motor By Hand While Tightened To Trans

Hey,

Putting a motor into a automatic car. I know NOTHING about autos.

With crank pulley and flex plate on, out of the car, motor turns by hand fine.

With motor assembly bolted and torqued to the trans with the 4 motor to trans bolts, you cannot turn the motor by hand. Like not at all.

If you loosen those four bolts about a quarter inch, you can turn motor by hand. Was able to install the four flex plate bolts this way.

Torque converter turns freely without motor, and turns freely bolted to motor as long as those four mounting bolts are loose.

Flex plate is installed with the welds towards the trans.

Thanks,

Tim Klein

Yes, it was in neutral :P

The problem was that the torque converter was not on all the way.

For search purposes, when you put the torque converter on, gently push in and turn. there will be three clicks and the converter will move closer into the bellhousing.

Then it is all the way seated.

More like 3 'slides'. It will take a good few many tries, but it recesses quite far into the bellhousing.
