755, 1/4 mile time with mods
Posted by shuwa29, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
ok, i got a 98 eclipse rs auto with this list of mods:
aem cai
ported throttle body(good mid-range power)
ngk plugs and wires
msd dis-2 ignition with 7 degree retard
jet v-force controller
greddy sport cat-back exhaust
gutted inside(no back seats or anything, even panels removed)
18" revo's(too low for factory 14's)
150 lb. driveri think that's about it. i am wondering what you guys think i will run. i have only ran the up hill 1/8 mile in dallas, ga and did low 11's. weather will be around 60-64 degrees and intake will be chilled with ice before staging. i really want to know what you guys think my times will be. thanks

Why are you retarding the timing, thats gonna slow you down unless you are running turbo or nitrous to the point that you need timing retardation to not detonate and cause problems.

ok, so i should not run the retard, is that right? a bunch of us are going to the strip tomorrow so i am just trying to prepare myself for the surprise time or for the disappointment time. either way, i'll know what to improve on. and if you got any other idea's about the msd ignition let me know. like any certain setting that would work best. the guys at msd only guided me through the install, kinda hard without a manual! thanks.

Let me know how you run, since you're auto like me. If you can get into the 16's that would be really good, but most people run 17's. My best is 17.159 @ 80 mph.

Mods are: AEM CAI, AEM Cam Gears, Hotshot Headers, Magnaflow Exhaust, Ported and Milled Head, AFX UDP.

Without the head work and UDP, my best was a 17.22 (but mostly 17.3's), so I don't think it ended up making much difference for me.

damn, now i'm not even sure if i want to run. that's kinda embarrassing, no offense. i'm going down there with some mustang and camaro guys and my buddy with a 98 gs-t. he's going for 14's, i was hoping for 16's. damn, guess i'm screwed.

Hey there are a couple autos that made it into 16's n/a. Go for it, it's all for fun, even if you are slow. Let us know how you do...

i was just looking at some previous post and went to a site that calculates your times based on different factors. it said i should do around 11.07 in the 1/8 with basic mods, intake and exhaust. when i looked at an old post, the driver had the same two mods and ran a 11.04. so based on these numbers, i should do a 17.32 in the 1/4 with just intake and exhaust. throw in the other mods and the weight reduction and the 1/8 is dropped to 10.59 and the 1/4 16.63. when i did my mid 11 run in the 1/8 the track was up hill, i had lack of oil in my motor, thus the knocking rod on the bearing, and didn't know how to launch. so i'm hoping for the 16's on my go. but yeah, i will let you guys know how it goes.

how'd you do?

ok, here are my shitty times! i made 3 passes before i i decided to race the fuck out of it!
1st.
2936 lbs. each pass
1/8 10.85
mph 64.63
1/4 17.04
mph 80.01

2nd
1/8 10.76
mph 65.17
1/4 16.89
mph 80.79

3rd
1/8 10.67
mph 65.71
1/4 16.75
mhp 81.36

yeah the times suck but i did get into the 16's. next for me is the udp's cam gears and cam shafts. i did the egr mod and my gas use is high as hell. i spent $20 on gas yesterday. 10 on the way down there, around 80 mph were the slow speeds and 120 were the highs, on interstate and backroads! oh yeah, topped out at 125 mph. car liked it! but not at the track. also, i think all the heavy driving might have fried a plug or two and messing with the ignition totally fucked me over! 17.74! you can see the improvements with the ignition! plus i ran it as soon as i got there. so driving the piss out of it then racing it before it cooled, not good times. anyways, when i get more mods, i'll post them and return to the track. oh yeah, i raced a talon with intake, that was my 2nd run and he ran a mid 17. on my 3rd and best run, around 10 pm i ran a civic dx with rims and intake. he too ran a mid 17! but my best race was around midnight. on the way back, myself, boddy(98 gs-t), chris(2000 ls1 camaro), and mike(93 probe gt) kinda met up with decked out caviler. chris wanted nothing to do with it, bobby toyed with him, and finally the cavy and i ran them. from a 65 mph roll, we both unleashed them. everytime either of us got to a certain point the other would start to pull, but the time i 80, i was back next to him, then again at 100. at 115 he was having to play catchup and at that time we were coming up on slower cars and called it. he gave me the thumbs up and felt alot better about my car! what a fun and tiring night!

Congrats, those times are really good for an auto. What made the difference between the runs? Did you tune anything? Is the MSD worth it? Or was it just because your car cooled down more? I wish I could hit 16's...that is going to be my ultimate goal haha.

BTW, my MPH are always 80.xx, and my times usually range from a best of 17.159 to 17.3's. Does anyone know what it means when you end up with same mph, but a faster ET? Is that due to better launches or?

letting it cool down did help alot! before it cooled, i couldn't even get close to touching the valve cover or anything! with the ignition, it helped out a bit. at about 4,000 rpm's my car sounds like it has v-tec. i let a friend of mine who hadn't riden in an eclipse before, and about the time i hit 4,000 he noticed a sound difference in the intake. so that's how my car got (v-tec) as i am known around my area! but until i am able to get more power and more torque, and run on the 14 inch wheels, my times will not improve much. but yeah, that mid or high 17 i did, that was right off the highway to the track, it was around 6:15 and hot, in southern ga! but other than that, the highway on the way home was the fun part! that caviler just made me feel alot better since i edged him out! now i need nitrous and i can go on a rampage for awhile!
