Lol, yeah, I hear ya. This is a practice, practice, practice thing. I actually learned it many years ago with the car not running. Had to "unlearn" the rote memory of lifting as you shifted. I started out just doing it while the car was sitting, then worked up lower rpm speed shifts etc. I actually start moving the shifter just slightly before the clutch is disengaged.

Any quarter mile runs are going to be hard on the clutch. The older and weaker it is, the less it will take to break.
